Are you a Data Engineering expert with experience in Microsoft Azure and cloud data architecture, and would love to use your skills to really make a difference and help change people's lives?
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a creative and forward-thinking Senior Data Engineer to join our brilliant Information & Data Architecture Team and manage the ongoing evolution and innovation of the group's cloud and on-premises data stores, analysis tools, data modelling and other technological capabilities in line with organisational policy and regulatory guidelines.
This is a great time to join the team as you will also play a key role in system consolidation and data migration as we adopt a more modern approach to data via Microsoft Fabric and Azure.
As our Senior Data Engineer, you'll:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to establish requirements and agree solutions
- Be innovative and creative, looking for solutions and capabilities which improve and extend the use of data within the organisation.
- Define, plan and undertake the extraction, manipulation and integration of enterprise data to support data and analysis related solutions
- Create ETL routines, dashboards, visualisations, analysis and reports
- Perform data analysis to verify the integrity and usage of data
- Communicate any blocks, risks, assumptions, issues, decisions via the agreed method and to the relevant person/s.
- Conduct unit and co-ordinate technical testing where appropriate.
- Work with stakeholders to conduct and coordinate technical and UAT testing
- Ensure scheduled outputs, batch jobs and ETL infrastructure run efficiently and reliably
- Proactively ensure the data environments are optimally tuned to ensure efficient operation
- Report ongoing issues or trends, analyse, identify, communicate and implement any remedial action
Some of the things we are looking for:
- Extensive experience in a similar Data Engineering role with full development lifecycle.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of good dashboard and visualisation design to deliver an effective high quality business solution.
- Strong experience with Kimball data modelling and data warehouse design. Ability to demonstrate understanding of complex data warehouse constructs, such as slowly changing dimensions SCD, conformed dimensions, junk dimensions etc.
- Experience analysing and documenting requirements and suggesting solutions.
- Experience of resolving technical incidents in a professional fashion.
- Experience supporting and monitoring Data solutions and SQL databases in a business environment, including monitoring and performance tuning SQL databases.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of complex data warehouse constructs, such as slowly changing dimensions SCD, conformed dimensions, junk dimensions etc.
- Experience of coordinating and executing user testing.
- Good understanding of cloud data technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric would be advantageous
- Understanding of relational databases, database design.
- Good experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2 or above. With good T-SQL, stored procedures and performance tuning techniques. Ideally some basic DBA knowledge. Other RDBMS may be considered.
- Strong Microsoft SSIS experience. Ideally data warehouse ETL processing.
- Experience of working with data from multiple sources, ideally Housing Systems.
- Extensive experience with Reporting Services (SSRS) and data visualisation tools including Excel, with SSAS MOLAP Cubes.
- Experience within a social housing environment, ideally with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Capita Open Housing or similar systems and data is desirable
- Have a strong customer focus, and the ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
While this role is home based, you should have the ability to occasionally travel to Group offices and other locations as required. Our Group offices are located at Birmingham Business Park and Central Park, Worcester.
